We intentionally cap our first grade numbers to allow for smaller student:teacher ratios. Our head teacher is certified in early childhood and elementary education and is partnered with a well-experienced assistant. The first grade staff partners with specialists to create a very strong program that allows students to transition into any next step. The curriculum is comprised of a total language approach, including Sadlier From Phonics to Reading and HMH Math in Focus. Additionally, our school has created its own science and social studies curriculum and the students get to take part in all kinds of special rotations, ranging from library and math to music and physical education. Creativity is encouraged through crafts, play, and centers on a regular basis. Students are also given opportunities to be well-rounded in community awareness and life application skills. We strive to maintain a balance between the academic rigor and fun that is developmentally appropriate. It is also extremely important to us that children understand the many gifts that God has given us. This year, we will use a combination of our own Bible lessons and a curriculum created by Positive Action for Christ.
